Understanding Chakras Through Sound Healing: How Tuning Forks Revealed My Body’s Hidden Pain
Have you ever felt pain in one part of your body, only to discover that the real cause came from somewhere entirely different? In a world focused on symptoms, we’re often taught to treat the obvious. But what if the source of your discomfort lies in your energetic body—not just your physical one?
In this blog, we’ll explore the fascinating connection between chakra healing and sound healing, and how tuning forks and vibrational medicine can unlock profound transformation. I’ll also share a personal experience that completely shifted how I viewed the relationship between emotional energy and physical pain—and helped me understand what sound healing really is.
What Are Chakras?
Chakras are spinning energy centers in the body that originate from ancient Indian spiritual teachings, particularly from early texts like the Vedas and later detailed in the Upanishads and Tantras. The word "chakra" means "wheel" in Sanskrit, and each chakra is seen as a vortex of life-force energy, constantly spinning to regulate the flow of physical, emotional, and spiritual vitality.
These energy centers are said to align along the spine, from the base to the crown of the head. When they are open and spinning properly, they allow energy—known as prana—to flow freely throughout the body. When a chakra becomes blocked, imbalanced, or stagnant, it can manifest as physical pain, emotional distress, or spiritual disconnection.
Understanding how each chakra governs specific aspects of your well-being allows for deeper insight into how to bring your body, mind, and soul into harmony—especially when paired with practices like meditation, breathwork, and sound healing.
Here’s a simplified breakdown of the seven main chakras:
Root Chakra (Base of the spine): Safety, security, survival
Sacral Chakra (Below the navel): Creativity, sexuality, emotions
Solar Plexus Chakra (Stomach area): Confidence, power, control
Heart Chakra (Center of chest): Love, compassion, connection
Throat Chakra (Throat): Communication, truth, self-expression
Third Eye Chakra (Between the eyebrows): Intuition, clarity
Crown Chakra (Top of head): Spirituality, higher consciousness
What Is Sound Healing and How Does It Work with Chakras?
Sound healing is a therapeutic practice that uses sound frequencies to help the body and mind return to a balanced state. It’s based on the understanding that everything in the universe—including our bodies—is made of energy that vibrates at specific frequencies.
Each chakra has its own natural frequency, and when a chakra is out of alignment, introducing its resonant frequency through sound can help realign and clear energetic blocks. This is where tuning forks come in.
How Tuning Forks Work for Healing
Tuning forks are precision-calibrated metal instruments that produce specific sound frequencies when struck. In sound healing, they can be applied directly to the body or used around the energetic field (the biofield) to assess and correct imbalances. When used with chakra healing, they help restore the correct frequency to each energy center.
In sound healing training, I was taught to assess chakra balance before deciding which area to treat. One method is using a pendulum to determine which chakra is calling for attention. From there, tuning forks tuned to the specific sound frequencies of that chakra can help clear emotional and energetic blockages.
The beauty of this form of energy healing is that it works gently, yet deeply, even when the source of the imbalance isn’t where you expect.
My Personal Experience: When My Tailbone Pain Was Actually a Throat Chakra Blockage
I knew this principle intellectually. I’d seen it work on clients. But then came a moment in class where I became the one on the table—and I’ll admit, I was skeptical.
At the time, I had been dealing with debilitating tailbone pain for over two weeks. It was so intense that I preferred lying down over sitting, and I started questioning how much longer I could work. The pain felt like it might require time off—or worse, even disability.
So when it was my turn in the training to receive a treatment, I was ready to say, “Work on my tailbone.” But I also knew from experience that the place where you feel the pain is not always the root of the issue.
My instructor used a pendulum to check each of my chakras. To my surprise, it wasn’t my root or sacral chakras that were calling for attention—it was my throat chakra. I was frustrated. I thought, This is a waste of time. My pain is in my tailbone—not my throat.
But I kept quiet and allowed the process to unfold.
As they worked with tuning forks over my throat chakra, we encountered multiple "knots"—blocked or distorted areas in my energetic field. It didn’t shock me completely; I’ve had thyroid issues and used to struggle with speaking up when I was younger. But I was still thinking, Great. But my tailbone still hurts.
Then something extraordinary happened.
When the session was over, the pain in my tailbone—the same pain I thought might take me out of work—was completely gone. I was shocked. Truly.
Driving home, I put on an Adele song, and something in me wanted to sing. And with the windows rolled up, I belted out notes I hadn’t been able to hit in years. My voice felt freer, clearer, more powerful. And somehow, that too was connected to the same energetic blockage that had been affecting my tailbone.
It turns out, unspoken truths and silenced self-expression had been silently taking up residence in my body—and clearing my throat chakra set them free.
Solfeggio Frequencies & Chakra Alignment
If you read my first blog post on sound healing, you might remember the section on Solfeggio frequencies—a set of specific tones believed to correspond with each chakra and help restore energetic balance. These frequencies, when paired with sound healing tools like tuning forks or crystal bowls, can help bring blocked or overactive chakras back into harmony.
Here’s a quick breakdown of how the Solfeggio frequencies align with the chakras:
396 Hz – Root Chakra (Releases fear and guilt)
417 Hz – Sacral Chakra (Facilitates change and eases trauma)
528 Hz – Solar Plexus Chakra (DNA repair and transformation)
639 Hz – Heart Chakra (Fosters connection and compassion)
741 Hz – Throat Chakra (Supports clear expression and truth)
852 Hz – Third Eye Chakra (Enhances intuition and clarity)
963 Hz – Crown Chakra (Promotes spiritual connection)
If you're a visual learner, I created a beautiful Canva chart that illustrates this alignment—[click here to view it]. It's a great tool to reference when you're listening to sound frequencies or creating your own chakra-tuning playlist.
Using these frequencies during a sound bath or meditation session can gently open, cleanse, and balance the chakras—making sound therapy for healing a powerful tool for overall well-being.
What This Teaches Us About Pain & Energy
That experience forever changed how I see pain. Our bodies are brilliant communicators—but they often speak in metaphors, not logic. That tailbone pain wasn’t just physical—it was energy trying to get my attention.
Working on the throat chakra, the center of communication, truth, and authentic voice, released years of stuck energy. And that energy had to go somewhere—so it showed up in my root. The connection wasn’t linear, but it was deeply real.
Pain is often a messenger, pointing to unresolved emotions or energetic stagnation. With sound healing and a basic understanding of chakra healing, we have the power to listen—and respond—with compassion.
Conclusion – The Wrap-Up
So, have you ever considered that the root of your pain might not be where you feel it?
Chakras and sound healing offer a profound way to understand and clear energetic blocks—not just for physical relief, but for emotional and spiritual alignment. Whether you're struggling with chronic pain, unprocessed emotions, or feeling energetically stuck, tuning into your chakras may reveal more than you ever imagined.
I’ve seen it work. I’ve felt it in my own body. And now, I help others uncover their hidden healing pathways through the vibration of sound and intentional energy healing.
